Literally every person in that crowded basement went apeshit crazy, and I can still vividly remember the screaming and frenetic dancing that ensued. I have a distinct memory of playing that drum portion while DJ’ing in the basement of a fraternity house in about 1990, to a crowd in which I’d wager absolutely no one had ever heard of the Bar-Kays or this song, and bringing down the house.
